The Villages Action Group has reformed to campaign against the proposals in the draft Local Plan – the VAG web site can be found here:

Can anyone please point me at a website that will SHOW the plan of the proposed bypass road to deal with the Woodgate level crossing?

All you have to do is get shot of Cllr R Bower and Simon Meacham and you will be almost there. Suggest that you write to your local MP and get him to use his influence to bring these two megalomaniacs into line (or better still sacked as incompetent) and get ADC to act in the spirit of the Government’s own policy of influence-led planning decisions. I’m sure there are some (maybe) thoroughly decent ADC Councillors, but as always you get a couple of rotten apples (RB/SM) in the barrel.

I think the main problem is that Councillor Bower enjoys the never questioning support of his leader Councillor Mrs Brown. She has had plenty of opportunities to sack RB but has failed on numerous occasions to assert the integrity of the council. He pre determines week after week without challenge from his leader.

By failing to discipline RB (like his resignation and subsequent unresignation from the LDF Sub Committee!) Mrs B has shown herself to be a very weak leader. She has allowed so much inappropriate conduct to pass unchallenged that she must now be seen as part of the problem rather than a part of the solution. RB is only the front man – the ethics and integrity of the council emanate from its leader. It’s rather sad really.

There are some good councillors at Arun (I know some of them personally) but they are a small minority amongst the never questioning “poodles” who believe that party loyalty comes before service to the public.

Actually, there is another important point here:

Are the councillors afraid of Councillor Bower because he is the Conservative Group whip?

Is he whipping his own Local Plan through?

I know that RB used to be the Conservative Group whip, then it was Councillor Dendle. I’ve heard it suggested that it is RB once more – but do not know for certain. Can anyone confirm if RB is also the party whip? We need to know!

      Note added 20th November 2012

At the Full Council meeting of 24th October 2012, in response to a written question from Councillor Squires the minutes recorded the following:

“Mrs Brown stated that the Conservative Members always had a free vote and were not subjected to a whipped vote at any time.”

Are Arun’s Conservative Group so “passive” that they do not need whipping? It could be a party political first!
