Hi Jackie will try to help going back some years ago a property my carer owned was taken away because I got sick it was reposed adc allowed 6 months no council tax as it took a long time to sell adc requested him to pay the council tax even tho it had been repossesed and was empty and not his this he did over a 3 month period not sure about new law because this was in place some years back sorry this is probably not very positive for you but clearly as in your case it still stands with them if I’ve any advice move some furniture in at best this will then entitle you to the single person discount hope this has helped a bit wishing you every happiness in your new home

I have just purchased a flat in Littlehampton and went to the council offices to register and pay the local taxes on the property.
I explained it was empty and that I wished to apply for a reduction as I would not be moving in for a month at least,to be told I would have to pay the FULL amount as the flat was empty and that had it had furniture I would be entitled to the single persons discount.
The council have changed its procedure with regard to COUNCIL TAX. My flat comes under Class C they told me and that the previous owner has had the reduction so I can’t have it,
even though the executors to the estate had been paying full tax on the flat for the last 6months having had the discount for the first 6 months, it had taken them some while to obtain probate.
So it appears that the discount of 50% for unoccupied properties is only valid ONCE in the lifetime of the property surely this cannot be correct?

The council approved the reform to council tax on the 09-01-13 Full Council meeting page 322. The council only gave me page 322 so cannot see if they have applied the reform correctly?
Can any one shed some light on the above?

Does anyone know of an action group or groups who are unhappy with the plans for Hotham park? Or just unhappy about Arun District Council in general. Littlehampton is in danger of losing most of its leisure facilities and ADC seem to be using the old divide and rule ploy to get a L’hampton vs Bognor row so diveting the real issue of their general uselessness. Any links to websites or blogs would be great, thanks
