Nick Herbert MP has finally surfaced …. for a public meeting

Well, well, Nick Herbert has finally surfaced.

His web site states:

“Arundel & South Downs MP Nick Herbert has called a public meeting later this month to discuss proposals to build thousands of houses in the ‘six villages’ area of West Sussex.

Residents of Barnham, Eastergate, Fontwell, Walberton and Westergate will have the opportunity to discuss the issue with their local Member of Parliament and be updated on the current state of the plans.

The public meeting will be held on Friday 28 September from 6:30pm to 7:30pm at Fontwell Park Racecourse.”

Nick Herbert has done more than any other individual in the district to steer development away from brownfield land at Ford Airfield (a mile from his home) and towards greenfield land in Angmering, Eastergate, Barnham and Aldingbourne.

He was, of course, fully aware that the alternative to a new settlement at Ford was village extensions at Angmering, Barnham, Eastergate and Aldingbourne!!

It should be quite a fun meeting to see how Nick Herbert pretends to support economic growth, the public and the council all at the same time!

No doubt he will blame housing requirements on:

  • the previous government
  • the South East plan
  • those who promoted  a new settlement at Ford
  • us for having children
  • us for living too long
  • Johnny Foreigner

Whilst at the same time arguing that:

  • Nothing is the current government’s fault
  • Arun District Council know what they are doing
  • Localism and community initiatives are to be encouraged (except on airfields near him)
  • There is no need for any housing or jobs at all – things are fine the way they are
  • Ford is greenfield
  • The draft Local Plan is not a grudge against those who promoted a new settlement at Ford
  • He has been too busy to help campaigners in Angmering, Eastergate, Barnham and Aldingbourne … but if anyone else needs any help just ask
  • The government is doing a great job!

LOL!

This was amusing and sums it up neatly. It’s true that if the Ford plans had been adjusted to a smaller development it would solved at least the housing problem. Nick Herbert is also hypocritical if he is objecting to the road scheme (as nearly all the residents do), because he is very much in favour of the Arundel bypass which is just as uneccessary. By the way NH is the man who didn’t actually know Barnham was in his constituency when I wrote to him.

He’s an expenses cheat too! Though when he got caught he paid some money back – how kind of him!
